Phillies Just fuckin’ with me mentally

Usually, I would be upset if the team that I root for needed a bat to put behind their MVP slugger, Ryan Howard. After seeing this off-season unfold, I’m somewhat happy that they have stood still, in that regard. I say somewhat because I am pretty sure that even after reading a lot about the Soriano deal, I would still take it in Philadelphia. Soriano’s deal is insane if you bat him leadoff and generally not worth it. But, the Phillies had no intentions of doing that and the Cubs will likely stop with the Soriano lead-off talk by opening day. Eight years is still too long on a contract for Soriano, but in getting Soriano you have to take some good with the bad.

When Soriano left the market, that pretty much left Carlos Lee as the only possibility in the free agent market to protect Ryan Howard. For a brief moment, I somewhat wanted the Phillies to take a serious look at bringing in Lee. Today, I’m very glad that they chose not to…Lee signed with the Houston Astros for 6 years/100mill.

That I see this ESPN story about the Washington Nats train derailing and I’m slightly dissapointed that none of them got hurt? I mean, I’m not wishing death for them and I’m not even asking for serious injury. Just temporary headaches or something that Advil isn’t working for. Maybe a wrist sprain or something. I mean, they’re playing the Phillies tonight in the first of a three game series and I need some Phillies wins. This isn’t wrong, is it? Nothing serious, just keep a couple top Nats out of a lineup for a couple days.

That’s not wrong, right? That’s pennant race baseball, right?

As an aside, how long did it take to convince Soriano that they were taking a train back from NY? It was hard enough getting the man to move to Left, I can’t imagine this was easy. Maybe the Bengals should try it, though, you know, get more liquids in them during their travels back home.

Should I get behind it? Invest in it so to speak. Think they’re going to do it. Watch them come close to doing it…

Only to ultimately see them fall short?

I’m going to try to not write about two things with any consistency on this blog: The Philadelphia Phillies and random pleas to Ryan that consist of: “man, where are you AT..Shawn is showing me PAINTBALL DVDs right now. Get over here and play some damn cards. Seriously, Shawn just said ‘literally, right here is the best shit ever…hands down. Look at this shit. Hang on, I need to rewind it, but look at this.'” Because, really, the readership likely isn’t going to care as much about the Phillies as I do and NO ONE is going to want to hear me talk about Shawn putting on paintball DVDs. (Seriously, Ryan, Shawn just went from paintball DVDs to complaining about picking up “Brandon” Lidge and finally realizing they demoted him from closer right before he picked him up).

This one will be about the Phillies and the wild card, likely no more paintball talk, but at this point there are no guarantees. Click the Read More button if you want, but bitter venting about my favorite team in sports might follow. Not quite sure what’s to come with this one.
