Don’t Sleep on the Gamecocks

For the second week in a row South Carolina has a primetime SEC match-up televised on ESPN (7:45 Eastern on the mothership). This is just another sign that South Carolina is a team on the rise. This is going to be a much tougher test for than last week for the Gamecocks but don’t let the 15 points scored against Mississippi State scare anyone of the Gamecocks’ bandwagon. Don’t think for a second that Spurrier was saving a few things for this week. He is that type of sneaky bastard that would sandbag against an inferior team like Mississippi State just to surprise the Bulldogs.

What to watch for today…

Probably the matchup between #1 and #2 in Austin as the Buckeyes travel down to face the Texas Longhorns in a huge rematch of last seasons Texas win in Columbus. Someone with Disney woke Brent Musberger up early today and the man opened Gameday with some yelling. I’m going with the Buckeyes in this one as I’ll take Troy Smith over some dude named Colt that just by that name sounds like he’s going to spent a stint in rehab and roll around with suicidal tendancies Joe Kane style. This isn’t a “lancer STONE COLD LOCK” or nothin’, but I do what I can.

“Who the hell do Notre Dame fans think they are?”

Now is as good a time as any to get this down on e-paper. The school I went to undergrad at, Penn State, heads to South Bend this week and two weeks later I’ll be in a stadium for a Notre Dame game for only the second time in my life when they come to East Lansing.

If you’re reading this and even mildly find yourself a college football fan, you’ll either think me an asshole or love what I’m saying. But, let me start by putting my hatred of Notre Dame in persepective…

You know in ROBOCOP, where Christopher Henderson (Peter Weller to those of you not 24 fans) is about to die so he can transform into Robocop? You know how that multi-cultural array of bad dudes lights Henderson up with many, many gun blasts all while laughing at Henderson absorbing these punishing bullets? Then the leader of the gang walks up and says something about just getting it out of the way and putting one final bullet in Henderson’s head?

That’s the way I prefer to see the Notre Dame football team. Embarrased, but with that one final bullet in their head.
If there is one given in this World for college football fans, it is that you will either hate Notre Dame or love them dearly. I fall on the hate side and there is nothing unique about it.
